Chevron Belgium: no more complaints for the handling of empty oil barrels

Friday, October 30, 2015

The Chevron site in Ghent found a successful solution to a common question: how can we improve the handling of empty barrels? Along with UVO Technologies, multiple systems were compared and the choice was made to procure and install a telescopic boom conveyor from BEST Conveyors with at the front an articulated belt.

A full trailer contains 280 empty oil barrels (also called drums). These are stacked 3 high and each drum still weighs 14 Kg. To unload this incoming cargo three employees were needed, until now. By integrating the telescopic boom conveyor just one man can do this job within the same time schedule as before! ! ! A huge leap forward in terms of productivity, of course, but the story does not end here. Safety is on top of the priority list at Chevron. Thanks to the articulated conveyor belt at the front of the telescopic boom working conditions are safer for the operators, are much more ergonomic for the human body and the special design reduces the risk of clenched hands and feet.

The use of this telescopic boom conveyor also reduces the risk of damage to the drums (scratches, dents, ...). So also in this field a cost-effective investment.

Do the above solutions sound as music to your ears, then you know where to knock.
